Weingut Adam-Schererkogl
Austria, Südsteiermark
Located at the wonderful landscape of the “Südsteirisches Hügelland”, on top of a steep hill this winery produces the typical Styria white wines, such as the aromatic Muskateller and Scheurebe. Father and son are very active, managing also a guesthouse with food and beverage.
It is difficult to find them, because the winery is located far away from populated centers singularly in a very picturesque wine area, which is famous also for the production of pumpkins. In fact besides the wine many farmers are living from world famous South Styria pumpkin seed oil.
The winery is small with high acidity white wines, mostly in the very dry version with mineralic notes. Interesting is primarily the sparkling Yellow Muskateller, a surprisingly aromatic sparkling wine. But also the “Scheurebe”, a hybrid between Riesling and the so called “Bukett”-grape, which once more is a hybrid between Sylvaner and Trollinger. The Scheurebe is distinguished by a large range of sweet and acid tastes at the palate and sufficient bouquet, remaining in the mouth for long lasting period.
The winery is producing also a surprising Zweigelt, which is not typical for this white wine region, but the Adam family succeeded to make a well structured, dark colored red wine with 14% of alcohols, letting however some fruity notes.
The winery is a typical white wine producing Austrian reality, proving themselves each day in direct and permanent contact with the customers in their restaurant, combining Austrian simple food with their self produced wine. They are living from the fact that the restaurant customers should come again and again. That includes that the wine further to one time convincing, must be worth the money and bought again; this day for day. Is there a harder prove of quality?
