Domaine Richeaume
France, Provence
This domaine is famous, because a generation ago, a German wine enthusiast, bought vineyards nearby Aix-en-Provence and applied the biological way of winemaking, which provides a hard cut of the grapes, diminishing the quantities and the use of only natural fertilizers and some other “strange and esoteric” methods. The winemakers around struggled and quarreled with him, but he continued without any irritation. Today the domaine wins awards over awards and is the most renomated in the area. I passed there casually, because I excluded French wines from our product range. After having talked to the owner, Monsieur Hoesch, I made a wine tasting and after the wine tasting I was convinced, that I must offer his wines to my friends and partners. The Viognier and the red cuvees are from the best I had in France. The vineyards are on the base of a mountain massif, which creates a special microclimate with sufficient heat and protection. Therefore the wines are very harmonic, nevertheless the tannic structure. I promised Sylvain Hoesch that China is appreciating his wines and I am sure that I can keep this promise easily. By the way the Domaine Richeaume is mentioned at Robert Parker as excellent, one of the best 20th producers in Provence.
